GETTING AROUND
GETTING AROUND
A bike lane on every street! The bike is obviously the ideal mode of transport in this city, but buses, trains, taxis and boats are readily available when needed. As in most cities, Google Maps should offer you a range of options.
APPS
These are the best apps to get you around Copenhagen...
Donkey Republic - App-based bike share
Google Maps - Directions, and shows Donkey Bike stations
Rejsekort - Contactless smart card payment for all public transport.
Uber - Books certified taxis only
BIKES
Biking is the best way to get around by far. Ask your hotel or Airbnb host if they have bikes available for guest use.
If not, the city's top bike share program is Donkey Republic. There are also many rental shops.
Which choice is best depends on where you are staying and how much you want to ride while you're in town.
RENTALS
We are now recommending that you just use Donley Republic. It's very reliable and well-priced. Consider their 3 or 7 day deal, where they offer you X number of hours over X number of days...
Christiania / Family / Cargo Bike Rental
For those of you with kids...a bike you can move them around in...

TAXIS
Uber is re-started in Denmark this year and is working well. It only books licensed taxis.
Taxa 4x35 is the classic local taxi company. Its app books rides, but you pay in the car.

HOW TO BIKE IN COPENHAGEN
Biking in Copenhagen is not the same thing as biking anywhere else. There can be tremendous volume of riders on some paths at peak times, so it's important to know a few basic tips to make your ride safer:
Bike Lanes - They are everywhere. Whether on a bike or not, stay out of them until you are ready to ride. Then wait for a space, and go. Do not hang out in a bike lane. Move on to the sidewalk right after you stop.
Hand Signals - There are only 2 hand signals you need: STOPPING (arm up) and TURNING (arm out). See below.
Speed - As long as you stay to the right, you may go as slow as you like. Do not feel pressure to go faster.
Left Turns - 2 moves. See below.
Single File - No matter how many riders in your group, always ride single file so others can pass you on the left.
Lights - Don't forget to turn on your lights when the sun goes down.
Helmets - We bring our own with us from home. You can also rent them in the bike shops. Though not traditionally worn by locals, they are increasingly being used, as they should be, and you should wear one too.
CIRCLE BRIDGE by Olafur Eliasson
Circle Bridge (Cirkelbroen) - A really cool bicycle bridge our friend Olafur designed.
He also created the Waterfalls for New York City back in 2008.
