WEATHER
The weather in Copenhagen can fluctuate drastically from hot days to cold nights. Dress in layers and check the forecast before you head out.
CURRENCY
The local currency is the Danish Kroner, NOT the Euro.
$1 = 6.4 DKK
100 DKK = $16
Credit cards and Mobile payments are taken everywhere.
Visa/Mastercard is accepted more often than Amex.
If you want some cash, the best exchange rate will be found at an ATM, rather than currency exchange booth.
PAY IN THE LOCAL CURRENCY, NOT US DOLLARS
In shops and at ATMs outside the US, payment screen may offer you the option to pay in / convert to US dollars (a US flag may be displayed too). Never select this. Always choose to pay in the local currency. If you choose US, you are paying an extra fee for the provider to convert the money for you, which your credit card does for you for free anyway.
INTERNATIONAL CELL PHONE PLAN
Check with your cell phone provider for your international plan options. If you don't have one activated, you may be charged exorbitant fees for cell, text and data usage. (*The new-ish Verizon unlimited plan now includes unlimited international service.)
We will be using some WhatsApp text groups to keep everyone connected. So download it if you don't have it.
